Claymiller
November 19, 1930 – March 16, 2025
Melvin H. Claymiller, 94, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Heritage Pointe. Born on November 19, 1930, he was the son of the late Charles and Nellie (Kayhoe) Claymiller. He was raised in St. Vincent Village Orphanage in Fort Wayne after his parents' passing. Mel honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. After the military, he worked at Poinsette Motors, where he met his beautiful bride, Carol (Schenkel). He also worked at Eckrich Meats until his retirement. When not working, Mel enjoyed camping and gardening. He was a genealogy buff and enjoyed researching family history. He was a member of the Fort Wayne Gem and Mineral Society, VFW Post 857, and Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Above all, Mel was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Charles "Chuck" Claymiller of Kendalville, Dennis Claymiller of Laotto, and Edward (Gail) Claymiller of Harlan; granddaughters, Samantha Claymiller of Fort Wayne and Brandi (Jeff) Walter of Woodburn; 8 great-grandchildren; and brother, Bernie Claymiller. Mel was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Carol Claymiller; son, Kevin Claymiller; grandsons, Michael Rice and Ben Perry; and his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805 with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Burial with military honors at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne following the service. Memorials can be written to Parkview Home Health and Hospice, c/o Parkview Foundation of Allen County (Parkview.com/foundations) in Mel's name.
