It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Melvin France, a beloved member of the Fort Wayne community. Michael was born on April 18, 1946, in Fort Wayne, IN, and peacefully departed from this world on Monday, November 11, 2024.
After high school, Michael worked for many years at International Harvester. He was drafted by the US Army during that time and served his country faithfully. After his honorable discharge, he returned to his previous work until his retirement. On March 19, 1966, he married Sharon Elaine (Castle) France. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He later went to work for St. Francis College for several years. His hobbies include collecting "Hot Wheels" cars and was a model train collector and enthusiast. His favorite set was the "American Flier" train set. He also enjoyed watching military documentaries.
He is survived by his loving son, Edward (Tammy) France, and daughter, Jeannie (Todd) Miller. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michaela (Marquis) Hutchins, Alexis (Conner Sines) France, Michaelle (Justin Smethers) DiMaggio-Potter, Gabrielle (Josh Brown) DiMaggio-Potter, Gabriel (Kalli Williams) Potter, and Jason Potter. Four great-grandchildren also survive, Nalaya Files, Dwight and Daliyah Coleman, and Carter Potter. Their memories of Michael will be cherished forever.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edna (Kump) France, wife Sharon France, and two sisters, Teresa France, and Mary Graft.
In honor of his life, a graveside service will be held at Catholic Cemetery, 3500 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne, IN 46805, on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 11:00 am. The US Army will perform military honors at that time.
