Michael Alan Schaefer, age 67, of Fort Wayne, passed away on October 29, 2026, peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Michael was a Project Engineer working in Saudi Arabia in 2024, when he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma which he battled for two years until God called him home. He was a 1976 graduate of Concordia High School and graduated from Purdue University where he later became a motivational speaker and was a mentor at his fraternity, Beta Sigma Psi, where he volunteered landscape work at the fraternity house. He kept in touch with his college buddies and often saw them at yearly gatherings. He spent twenty-three years in Palm Springs working at Coachella Valley Water District. He coached girls softball leagues and played on Traveling Senior Men’s leagues. In 2014, Michael moved back to Fort Wayne to be with his bride and family. He enjoyed spending time on Waldron Lake where his favorite pastime was kayaking, being outdoors, visiting with friends, and he was also an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. He also was a board member for Water Clarity on the West Lakes Association. In 2021 he and his wife became members of Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was active in the Outreach committee and Bible Study
