Myra J. Tovey, 89, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday March 24, 2026, at Stillwater Hospice Home. Myra was born in Fort Wayne on April 15, 1936, the daughter of (the late) Emmet J. and Velma (Holzhauer) Sorg. She earned her RN and a Bachelor of Science degree and began a lifelong career as a Registered Nurse.
While Director of Health Services for the Fort Wayne Community Schools, Myra received special recognition when she received the Indiana School Nurse of the Year award in 1986. After she retired, Myra moved to Colorado where she worked tirelessly for Healing Beyond Borders, a national organization devoted to healing touch work. As a certified Healing Touch instructor and practitioner, she taught many Level 1 and 2 classes, worked as a consultant at their headquarters and served on the board of directors. After moving back to Fort Wayne, Myra continued to be active with Healing Beyond Borders and devoted time to her family and watercolor painting. When she could, Myra attended services at the St Mary Magdala Spiritual Center and enjoyed the spiritual comradery there. Myra has created two relaxation CDs - The Awakened Heart and Meditations from the Heart. She has also authored Yes, I Will, an autobiographical book. Most recently, Myra has authored a book of watercolor paintings – Myra's Art.
Myra is survived by her husband, Dr. David A. Tovey; her children, Matthew (Mary) Till of Huntington, Anthony “Tony” (Lynn) Till of Grabill, Denise Robinson of Fort Wayne, and Joseph (Teresa) Till of Churubusco; grandchildren, Peter (Jenna) Till of Ft. Thomas KY, Molly (Mark) Sordelet of Fort Wayne, Laura (Tony) Braun of Cincinnati, John (Chelsea) Till of Indianapolis, Anne Marie (Jesse) Perez of New Haven, Rashelle (Ben) Chu of Lake Orion MI, Brandon (Aliya)Till of Yoder, Nicole (Jose) Cervantes of Irvine CA, Tyler Carlin of Portland OR and 32 great-grandchildren.
Myra is also survived by her brother, Dr. David (Judy) Sorg and her sister, Suzanne (Rudy) Rossi, both of Fort Wayne.
In addition to her parents, Myra was also preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Till.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 4:00pm Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with visitation on Sunday from 1-4pm. Interment with Graveside Services will be at 10:00am Monday April 13, 2026 in Catholic Cemetery, 3500 Lake Ave. The family’s preferred memorial is Healing Beyond Borders, online at https://healingbeyondborders.org, or by mail to 7112 W.
