Patrick J.
Murphy
August 30, 1951 – February 28, 2025
Patrick Joseph Murphy, age 73, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025. Born on August 30, 1951, he was the son of the late James and Laverne (Madden) Murphy, the devoted husband of Nancy (Junk) Murphy, and an amazing father to Gordon Murphy and the late Jessica Murphy.
He worked at Navistar as a mechanical engineer for 33 years, taking genuine delight in designing fire trucks and school buses. As a car enthusiast, Patrick and his brother raced a 1968 Camaro, he restored a 1967 Nova, and attended 40 years of US Nationals. He was also a prolific sharer of "dad jokes", scouring the internet for the best/worst jokes he could find, which he delighted in sharing with unsuspecting victims.
Patrick was a fantastic father, never missing a soccer game, and even volunteering as an assistant soccer coach, despite not really understanding the sport. A trail blazer, he also participated in his daughter's Girl Scouts events, always as the only father in attendance. Patrick took great pride in his children and rarely missed an opportunity to share it.
He was a loving and dutiful husband, willing to do whatever home improvement projects Nancy dreamt up. Patrick doted on her, referring to her as "Nancy Sunshine" all the way up until his final moments.
He leaves behind his wife, Nancy; son, Gordon; grandchildren, Vivian and Finn Murphy; brothers, Mike (Terese) Murphy and Tim Murphy; and sisters, Mary (Don) Miller, Kathy (Ken) Brockway, and Sue (Al) Muzzy. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, and beloved daughter, Jessica.
