It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we mourn the passing of Payton James Thomas (Little Bear), a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend, who left this world far too soon on June 15, 2026, at the age of 20. Payton was born on October 10, 2005, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and his life, though brief, was filled with immense joy, warmth, and genuine kindness.

Payton was a proud graduate of Northrop High School, class of 2024. While there, he earned his high school letter by participating in soccer as the goalie. (Go“Los Osos”!). The time spent with his teammates playing the game he loved were some of the best times. He also attended the Anthis program, Amp Lab where he started his own car detailing business. Which then led to positions with local small businesses such as Let It Glow and Got Tint. His dedication and hard work led him to a promising career at General Motors in Fort Wayne, where his passion for cars was not only a job but a reflection of his enduring interests. Payton's love for motorcycles and cars was well-known among family and friends, as was his delight in watching "The Bee Movie", collecting Hot Wheels, Matchbox cars, building Legos, and styling outfits with fresh sneakers.

More than his hobbies, it was Payton's character that truly defined him. He was a respectful, kind, and compassionate young man, whose heart of gold was evident to all who knew him. Payton had an uncanny ability to light up any room with his presence, spreading joy and warmth wherever he went. His genuine love for people was heartfelt and unwavering, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Payton's untimely passing has left a void in the hearts of those who loved him. He is survived by his devoted mother, Jacelyn, his dad, Bryan, brother Maddox, granny, Lori, abuelo Carlos, and Aunty Noemy, who will also hold Payton close in their hearts, remembering the vibrant spirit of their grandson. Payton was preceded in death by his father Willem ‘Willy’ de Villiers, Opa, Willem, Oma Miriam, and grandfather, Bruce Thomas who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.

A celebration of Payton's life will take place on June 26, 2026, at Divine Mercy, located at 1986 W Cedar Canyons Rd, Huntertown, IN 46748. The viewing will be held from 2-4pm EST and service will begin at 4:15pm EST. Family and friends are invited to gather and share in the love and joy that Payton brought into the world. We ask everyone wear their freshest Nikes or Jordans. As P would say, “Checks over stripes.” In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to Erin’s House for Grieving Children. Payton utilized Erin’s House after the untimely passings of his father and Opa. This organization is near and dear to the family.

In this time of mourning, Payton's family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered love and support through texts, calls, and messages. Your kindness has been a source of comfort during this difficult time, and your presence, whether near or far, has been truly appreciated.

As we remember Payton, let us hold onto the memories of his joyful spirit and the genuine love he shared. Though his time with us was short, Payton's impact will be felt for a lifetime. His light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his legacy of kindness and compassion will inspire us all to live with the same heart of gold that Payton possessed.
