Obituary

Raymond L. Blauvelt, 88, of Fort Wayne, went on to his heavenly home Sunday April 20, 2025. Ray was born in Fort Wayne on December 22, 1936, the son of (the late) Lester Arden Blauvelt and Alice (Egts) Blauvelt. He married Wanda (Patrick) Blauvelt on August 11, 1956; she survives., Ray retired from Holland Motor Express and was a member of Come2go Ministries and the Teamsters Local 414. Ray was an avid sportsman; he was an accomplished professional boxer in his younger years. Ray volunteered as boxing coach at the Fort Wayne Police Athletic League for more than 25 years. Ray served as past-president of the McMillen Park Little League Association. Ray's coaching at both PAL and Little Leage produced several Regional, State and National Champions over the years. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and raised Beagles for their hunting capabilities. Ray also enjoyed woodworking and his family has received many of his projects that will be treasured with his memory.

Also surviving are his children Cynthia Nissen of New Haven and Jeffrey Blauvelt of Fort Wayne; son-in-law, Paul Doak and daughter-in-law, Paula Blauvelt of Fort Wayne; longtime friend, Steve Willhoff of Leo; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews, along with Ray's faithful companion Shih Tzu, "Josie Mae". In addition to his parents, Ray was also preceded in death by sons, Raymond and Lester Blauvelt; daughter, Cheryl Blauvelt; brothers. Wayne, Larry (Virginia), Don and Roy Blauvelt; grandson, Lonnie Shelton and an infant great-grandchild.

Memorial Services for Ray will be held at 2:00pm Saturday May 3, 2025 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave, with Rev. Amy Beitelschees-Albers officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2pm.
