It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Dean Burleson, who left us peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 62. He was born on December 3, 1963, in Phoenix, AZ, to Charles & Alice (Pritt) Burleson. Rich was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who touched the lives of many.

Rich spent his career as an Indiana State Trooper and later as an Operations Specialist in the transportation industry, where his dedicated work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues. He was known for his quick smile, generous spirit, and a passion for the things he loved. His interests included traveling, football, refereeing basketball, fishing, skydiving and poker.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Heather (Hunnicutt) Burleson, his step-daughter, Jorden Bennett, grandchildren, Kennedy & Reaghan Bennett, siblings, Patricia (Richard) Hardiek, David (Cathy) Burleson, and Charlene (Greg) Mason. One nephew and 3 nieces, who will carry his memory in their hearts.

A memorial service will take place at 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home-Cedar Canyons, 1986 W. Cedar Canyons Rd., Huntertown, IN 46748. The public is invited to pay their respects during a visitation from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Allen County.

Rich will be missed dearly by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, we encourage those who knew him to share their favorite memories and stories, celebrating the joy he brought to our lives.
