It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Dean Harris, who left us peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on November 11, 1956, in Marietta, Ohio, Richard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who spent his life dedicated to his family and career. Rick graduated from Northrop High School and after graduation he was enlisted in 1975 serving in the US Army.

Rick was a designer and CAD draftsman with G.E. Electric, where he contributed his talents to the industrial motor manufacturing industry until they closed and then he retired from PHD in Fort Wayne.

Rick had a love for outdoors, wood crafting and reading.

He is survived by his wonderful wife, Janet L. (Pate) Harris, and their three children: Jason R. (Katie) Harris, Jennifer C. Harris, and Kimberly M. (Ryan M.) Smith, grandchildren, Cole & Stella Harris. He is also survived by brothers, Michael R. (Barbara) Harris and Thomas A. (Cathy) Harris, as well as several nieces and nephews. Richard's love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he cherished the many moments shared together. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. and Nancy E. (Conner) Harris.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. There will be a one hour visitation just prior to the service. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date. 

  Memorial contributions may be made to Scouting America (Boy Scouts), Fort Wayne Troop #55, Scout Master Ben Compton.

Gone but never forgotten, Rick will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
