Richard
Vachon
June 4, 1927 – May 29, 2025
Richard N. Vachon, 97, of Fort Wayne, died Thursday May 29, 2025 at The Terrace at Fort Wayne. Dick was born in Fort Wayne on June 4, 1927, the son of Robert J. and Maude (Schaffer) Vachon. He was a supportive and loving husband, father, grandfather, great and great-great grandfather, brother and friend. He was hard working, from a family lumberyard in his youth, to a US Army veteran, proudly serving his country during WWII, to a career with the US Postal Service, from which he retired after 27 years of service. On April 12, 1958, Dick married Donna (Bauermeister) Vachon, who preceded him in death on March 28, 2019, after 60 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert J. Vachon Jr. and his sister, Marilyn Vachon. He is survived by his children, Neil (Vicki) Vachon of Antwerp OH, Lisa Vachon (Matthew) Crates of Troutman NC, and Jerry (Alejandra) Vachon of Glendora CA, who all share beautiful and fond memories of the times spent with their parents. Dick is also survived by his grandchildren, Candius, Kelly, Jessie, Kathy, Joseph, Elizabeth, Rachel, Rosa, Elena, Alexis, Mitchel and Paul, along with his many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Dick was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was devout in his Faith. He was a talented woodworker and woodcarver, who also enjoyed nature; working in the garden and was fascinated watching all the birds, but his greatest joy in life were the times he spent with his family & friends. His family takes comfort knowing that he is in a place with loving protection from above. They pray that, Eternal Rest be granted unto him O Lord, and let Perpetual Light shine upon him. May he rest in Peace.
