Rita W. Carboni, 96, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at St. Anne Home & Retirement Community. Born on January 3, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Jesse R. Storie and Adelia (Faulkner) Widner. On May 21, 1949, Rita married the love of her life, John B. Carboni and they spent the next 55 years building a life together and watching their family grow. As a devoted mother, caring for her seven children filled most of her days, and later, being a loving grandmother and great-grandmother filled her life with joy. In her free time, Rita loved to garden, and fed her family with her garden's bounty. She also enjoyed reading and watching Fox News. Rita was a woman of faith. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Widows of Prayer since 2005, and the Third Order of Secular Franciscans for 50 years. Rita loved to pray the Rosary and was devout in her beliefs. Her devotion to her family and her feisty demeanor will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gary (Patricia) Carboni, James (Paula) Carboni, Thomas Carboni, Dwayne (Becki) Carboni, and Rita Carboni Moore; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Johnson. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John B. Carboni; sons, John R. and Timothy W. Carboni; grandchildren, Matthew Carboni, and Jeff and Tori Andress; and infant grandchildren, Michael Moore, and Victoria and Mackenzie Lytle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 East Wallen Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46825 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Rita will be laid to rest at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials can be written for Mass Intentions and to St. Anne Home in her name.
