Robert "Kelly"
Disser, Jr.
Feb 25, 1950 — Sep 9, 2026
Fort Wayne
Robert Kelly Disser Jr. ("Kelly"), 76, passed peacefully to the Lord on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at his home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, surrounded by his beloved wife and children.
Kelly was born February 25, 1950, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Robert K. and Marjorie C. Disser. He grew up in Kansas City, attended Jesuit Rockhurst High School, and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1972, where he was a three-year varsity football letter winner. Always a competitor and always a Hawkeye, his football days provided stories he would happily tell—and retell—for the rest of his life.
Kelly began his professional career in property and casualty insurance in 1973, and ultimately became a principal of O’Rourke, Andrews and Maroney. His career spanned decades and, like so much of his life, produced countless friendships, experiences and, of course, stories.
Kelly married the love of his life, Randi, on July 28, 1973. They shared 53 years of marriage and built their life and family together in Fort Wayne, where they raised their three children, Kelly, Joe and Jennifer.
Kelly was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and a man of faith, principle and tremendous love for his family and friends. He was a kind, loving father who wanted the very best for his children. He taught through his words, his expectations and, most importantly, his example.
Then, in 2010, Gianna was born—Kelly's first grandchild—and "Pop Pop" was born along with her. Over the years that followed, his family watched another side of Kelly flourish. The strong father became the caring, funny and endlessly entertaining Pop Pop to eight grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
He was an avid coach, golfer, artist, joke teller and pheasant hunter; and was a volunteer at Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities. But perhaps more than any hobby or accomplishment, Kelly valued relationships. He was an amazing friend and developed friendships that lasted a lifetime, including a special group of men who loved him dearly and considered him not simply their friend, but their brother. His legacy lives in the extraordinary loyalty he showed his family and friends—and in the love and loyalty they returned to him.
Kelly is survived by his beloved wife, Randi S. Disser; his son Kelly (Audra) Disser of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; son Joe (Melyssa) Disser of Houston, Texas; and daughter Jennifer (Nick) Melillo of Cincinnati, Ohio.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren whom Pop Pop loved dearly: Gianna Disser, Dayne Disser, Leighton Disser, Dominic Melillo, Anthony Melillo, Leo Disser, Josephine ("Joey") Disser and Emelia Disser; his brothers Paul (Shelly) Disser, Dan (Pam) Disser and Tom (Linda) Disser; his sister Carol (John) Dresser; and the many extended family members and lifelong friends fortunate enough to know and love him.
Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, Robert K. Disser and Marjorie C. Disser; his sister, Mary M. McCrea; and his brother, Ed Disser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. Visitation will be held at the church starting at 10AM for two hours prior to noon Mass. Burial will follow at 2:30pm at the Catholic Cemetery.
