IN MEMORIAM
Robert (Bob) L. Tegtmeyer, 89, of Fort Wayne, died peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Parkview Randallia Hospital. Bob was born October 5, 1936, in Fort Wayne to the late Robert and Anna (Oberholtzer) Tegtmeyer.
He married on May 6, 1961, his beloved wife Nancy (Cayot) Tegtmeyer, who preceded him in death in 2016. He & Nancy shared four (4) surviving children, Michelle (Jeffrey) Johnson of New Haven, Michael (Jeffrey Clifton) Tegtmeyer of Indianapolis, Rhonda (Jeffrey) Bigelow of Ossian and Amy Tegtmeyer of Bluffton. He was the proud grandfather of eight (8) grandchildren, R. Nicholas (Sue) Richards, Alicia (JD) Frick, Kirsten (Luke) Fallon, Brian (Toniya) Bigelow, Sarah (Bannister) Christopher, Nathan (Elizabeth) Lechleidner, Zachary Lechleidner and Emily Lechleidner. He was also blessed with 12-great-grandchild - Asher, Avery, Maximilian, Raymond, Noah, Conner, Levi, Ellie, Eleanor, Charlotte, Oliver and Dawson. He is also survived by his sisters, Phyllis Wright of Florida and Judy Saylor of Fort Wayne, as well as his brother, Steve (Judi) Tegtmeyer of Fort Wayne and 20-nieces & nephews. He was also preceded by his sister, Margaret Kimmel, sister-in-law Marjorie Miller & Levone Steckbeck, brother-in-law Donald Wright and his mother & father-in-law, Clarance & Mary Cayot.
Bob graduated from North Side High School in 1955. He served his country proudly in the US Navy Reserves from 1954 - 1961 and was employed by International Harvester, Fort Wayne, IN and Springfield, OH from 1959 - 1991. Throughout his life he enjoyed photography, always behind the camera, and leaves his family with happy photos & videos of their delightful childhood and shared camping adventures across the country. In his retirement years, he belonged to the Greater Three Rivers and Cedar Creek Model Railroad Club (GTRAC), enjoyed making model planes & boats, expanding his knowledge of history, continued traveling throughout the country, spending time with his family & friends and had provided loving care for his wife who had Parkinson Disease. Bob will be remembered as being the kindest man who never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation to honor his life and legacy will be held at the Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave, on Saturday, February 7th between 11am – 1pm with Service at 1pm.
