August 1, 1937 – March 31, 2026
Roger A. Steup, Sr., 88, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday March 31, 2026, at St. Anne Home. Roger was born in Terre Haute, IN on August 1, 1937, the son of (the late) Ervin A. Steup and Lois (Lowdermilk) Steup. He graduated from South Side High School, Class of 1955, and served his country with honor in the US Army’s Security Agency during the Vietnam Era. Roger continued his studies, earning his associate’s degree from Indiana University and his bachelor’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.
He’s survived by his wife, one month shy of, 60 years of marriage, Mary Jane (Fleis) Steup, their children, Rebecca (Marty) Sordelet, Blue Lake, Churubusco, Jennifer (Steup) Enrietto of Indianapolis, Maureen (Jason) Klotz and Roger A. Steup, Jr., both of Fort Wayne, and Natalie (Steup) Pease of Acworth, GA; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his sisters, Janice Vance and Natalie Steup; brother, A. Jack Steup, and grandson, Riley Enrietto.
Guided by his faith, family was the center of Roger’s life. A devoted husband and loving father, he lived his vocation with humility, patience, and steadfast love. Through gentle guidance, quiet humor, and thoughtful counsel, he reflected Christ’s call to serve others. Though his earthly journey has ended, Roger’s faith-filled example and spirit of generosity live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Roger served as President of American Federal Savings & Loan, then as Vice-president of Standard Federal Bank, and retired as a founder/realtor at Bridgewater Homes. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and member of the American Legion and the St. Vincent dePaul Society. Roger was an accomplished sportsman during his time in the military, avid golfer, and fisherman. He enjoyed playing trivia, crossword puzzles, cribbage, euchre, and other card games, and was a huge fan of Notre Dame and the Boston Red Sox.
Visitation is on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 4-8pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with Rosary at 3:30pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 7, 2026, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd. with visitation from 9:30-10:30am at the church. Burial in Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors immediately after Mass.
