February 25, 1954 – January 30, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald C. Salyers, who left us on January 30, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on February 25, 1954, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Ronald & Regina (Douglas) Salyers. He spent the last 2 years making a home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he touched the lives of those around him.
Ron was a devoted father to his three children, Athena Baumgartner, Kristian (Chad) Mertz, and Robin (Erin) Salyers. Ron also has six grandchildren, Quillen, Trenton, Kollin, Keaton, Everly, Viola And great-grand daughter, Kyla. His mother Regina Conkle and siblings, Mike Salyers, Frank (April) Salyers, and Cindy (Larry) Reese survive him. The love of family was a cornerstone of his life, and he will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father Ronald, sister Vikki Salyers and his beloved Grandma Arlie McCracken.
Ron proudly served his country in the US Army, 101st Airborne Division, where he obtained his Parachute Badge, Service Ribbon, Cross Rifles, Rifle M-16 Sharpshooter Qualification, Best Rifle Squad Achievement. Being stationed in Germany, on the Czechoslovakian border, during the Cold War & Vietnam War era, of the 70s, is where he received the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from active duty and re-enlisted in the Ohio Army Reserves 147th Infantry Company where he obtained The State of Ohio Adjutant General's Certificate of Appreciation for 5 years of faithful service to the State of Ohio until his Honorable Discharge. He then chose to enlist and serve in the Indiana National Guard, 238th Cavalry Squadron where he received his Cross Sabers and Indiana Commendation Medal for his service until his Honorable Discharge in 1987. His military service was a commitment he held close to his heart. Ron was an exceptionally talented musician and artist. He was accomplished in English literature and US history. Professionally, Ron dedicated his years to working as a forklift operator in the industrial sector, where his hard work and dedication were recognized by his peers.
Funeral services will take place 1:00pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home-Cedar Canyons, 1986 W. Cedar Canyons Rd., Huntertown, IN 46748. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm. We invite you to join us as we celebrate Ron's life and the memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
