Obituary

Rosalind Marie Sexton ("Rosie") passed away peacefully with her family at her side on July 28, 2025, after a brief illness. She was 89, and a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, IN.

Born on May 30, 1936, Rosie was the youngest of two children born to Joseph Bangert and Ruth Gongaware. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, she married Warren J Sexton in 1954. They were wed for 62 years (until his death) and were parents to six daughters.

Rosie was strong in her faith. She was a lifelong parishioner at St. Jude Catholic Church and served as a eucharistic minister, sharing the sacrament of communion at nursing homes and with the homebound.

She was short in stature, strong at heart and always ready to make friends, greeting everyone with a kind smile and a cheerful laugh no matter how busy she was.

She was a mom's mom, managing a bustling household that was the center of activity for children, neighbors and friends. As a homemaker, she was the organizer, bookkeeper and guardian of family recipes. She stole her husband's heart with her famous cherry pies and impressed everyone in the family with her Christmas sugar cookies - creations unequaled by anyone in the family.

When she wasn't busy with family or church, Rosie worked for years at Huston Pharmacy. In her spare time, she enjoyed tending to her bird feeders and always enjoyed playing games. Whether it was cards with friends, board games with grandchildren or shenanigans with her adult children, she created lasting memories.

Rosie is remembered by her children, Cherry (Mike) Kleber; the late Debby (Tim) Benson; Kim (Ron) Horner; Sue (Scott) Langford; Lisa (Ron) Kisor; and her "favorite" Kathy (Don) Perry. She also will be greatly missed by her nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as her two half-sisters and two half-brothers. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dolores Bangert.

A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Jude Catholic Church with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Divine Mercy Funeral Home.
