Shirley A. Alter, 89, of Fort Wayne passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Saint Anne Home, Fort Wayne, IN and is now in the arms of Jesus. Shirley was born August 2, 1934 in Oil City, PA to the late Ralph and Eleanor (Downes) Baldridge and was a graduate of Newport News High School. She met the love of her life Joe, while he was serving in the army stationed in Virginia. They were married in 1955. She was a member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Shirley retired from Sears in 2001.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joseph A. Alter of Fort Wayne, IN; three daughters, Carol (Mark) Baker of Temperance, MI, Susan (Tom) Young of San Marcus, CA, Lois (Cris) Nern of Sedro Woolley, WA; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Baldridge.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd. Fort Wayne, IN with calling one hour prior. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, St. Charles Catholic School Assistance Fund, Heartland Hospice or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
