Shirley Lauer, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023 at her residence.

She was born on January 9, 1934 in Fort Wayne to the late Norbert J. and Eptha (Fitzgerald) Getz.

Mrs. Lauer was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church.

Shirley enjoyed reading, Knitting, Crocheting, reading daily devotions, watching birds and butterflies and playing with her dog. She gave the BEST hugs and was known for them by all that knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Andy) Sanders; grandchildren, Kari (Jared), Jenna (Glenn), and Shelly (Bill); great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jackson, and Jameson; daughter-in-law, Nancy Lauer; sister-in-law, Donna Getz; and niece and nephews, Yvonne, Mike, Charles, Kevin, Mark, and Rob.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Lauer; son, Keith Lauer; brothers, Norbert "Bud", John "Gordon", and Dale; and nephew, John.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne with calling from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to St. Therese Food Bank, the Rescue Mission, or Heartland Hospice.
