Suzanne E.
(Boerger) James
February 24, 1947 – February 18, 2025
Suzanne E. (Boerger) James – beloved mother, grandmother, Gigi, sister, aunt, and friend – passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on February 24, 1947, Suzi's life was a testament to her unwavering love for family, her dedication to her work, and her compassionate heart.
Suzi graduated from South Side High School in 1965. She then earned a degree in dental hygiene from IPFW in 1970. For many years, she worked as a dental hygienist then a dental sales representative, but it was in the years following that she found her true calling.
Suzi discovered a deep passion for elder care, dedicating herself to serving residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Her career flourished as she served as the Director of Admissions and later as the Director of Marketing. She worked at Harborside-New Haven, Regency Place, Carrington, and Georgetown Place. In 2001, Suzi cofounded the first adult daycare in Fort Wayne, called A Day Away. She also served on the Board of Directors of Allen County TRIAD. She retired in 2008, but continued helping others by providing private in-home adult caregiving. Throughout her work, Suzi touched the lives of countless residents, always bringing warmth, kindness, and a genuine love for others. She became a cherished presence for all those in her care, and her commitment to their well-being was unwavering.
Suzi is survived by her daughter, Adrianne Woodward; siblings Steve Boerger and Patti (Steve) Teegardin; grandchildren Russel Woodward, Matthew Woodward, and Kaleigh Woodward; nephew Gene Boerger; nieces Kristin Rahn, and Kourtney Teegardin; seven great grandchildren who called her Gigi; and her beloved cat, Tiny, who stayed by her side until the end. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene R. Boerger and Sally W. Boerger. She leaves behind friends who will forever cherish her memory. Her legacy of compassion, dedication, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A celebration of Suzi's life will be held at Divine Mercy Funeral Home (3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805) on Sunday, February 23, at 3:00. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Suzi's name to Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter or Humane Fort Wayne.
Suzi may have left this world, but her spirit of love, laughter, and care will remain with all who were fortunate to know her.
