Thomas G.
Freeman
July 21, 1941 – September 26, 2023
Thomas G. Freeman, 82, of Fort Wayne, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Born July 21, 1941 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Thomas and Virginia Freeman. Tom graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1960. He married Rose Mary Sweeney in 1963. His Rosie passed away July 3, 2022. Tom and many members of his family and extended family spent summers at Lake Wawasee. Tom was a member of the Hoosier Ski Club and competed in water ski tournaments in the late 1950's. He was a talented ski jumper winning awards for his form and distance. We, Tom's children, are so grateful to Dad, our Grandparents, and great uncle Paul for the time we spent at Lake Wawasee. Tom began working at City Light around 1962. He also worked for Freeman Sporting Goods. He then worked for I and M the rest of his career. The phone would ring in the middle of the night after a storm and Tom always answered the call. Due to his friendly, outgoing personality and great sense of humor, Tom was well liked by many employees and had a calm nature for handling things. Tom loved I.U. basketball games, college football especially Notre Dame football and hated the NFL. He enjoyed large family gatherings for Notre Dame games. Dad enjoyed NASCAR too. Every year, the Sunday before Memorial Day, Dad would wake us up asking "Are you ready for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing?!" Tom is survived by his daughter Nannette (Charles) Wallin; sons Patrick Freeman and Timothy Freeman; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren; brother Timothy (Patricia) Freeman and sister Paula (Mark) Schaefer. Tom was preceded in death by his wife Rose Mary, sister Mary Ann Huhn; brother Jack Freeman and granddaughter Haley Freeman. The Freeman family would like to thank Dr. Zhang, Dr. Wuest and Dr. Khan and all of their staff for the great care and kindness you all provided. Thank you to the awesome staff of Lutheran Life Villages of Pine Valley and Stillwater Hospice for your wonderful care and kindness the last couple months. Tom loved you all. Inurnment will be in Catholic Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements through Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to Stillwater Hospice.
