Obituary

Thomas J. Devine, 89, of Fort Wayne, died Sunday January 7, 2024 at St. Anne Home. Tom was born in Fort Wayne on July 5, 1934, the youngest of six children of (the late) Callistus and Gertrude (Hagan) Devine. He graduated from Central Catholic High School with the Class of '53. Tom married Kathleen "Katy" (Golden) Devine on July 30, 1966; Katy survives along with their children, Karen (John) Monroe, David (Panicha "Awe") Devine, and Steven (Renee) Devine, all of Ft Wayne, Michael (Victoria) Devine of Huntertown, and Ronald (Karen) Devine of Marietta, GA and 13 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by his sister, Marie Strunk, and his brothers, Robert, John, William, and Richard Devine.

Tom was employed at General Electric, retiring in 1996. He spent the next 18 years as a Funeral Assistant at Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel. Tom was a member of St Peter Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member and Past Chancellor of the Knights of Columbus, Thomas A. Brandon Council 451. He also served as Past President and Treasurer of the CYO and the CYA and he was associated with the Boy Scouts at St Vincent DePaul Parish. Tom volunteered in several capacities for the Bishop Dwenger Athletic Department and was an avid Notre Dame fan. After Tom retired, he regularly visited friends and residents who were confined to nursing homes or hospitals.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 am Friday January 19, 2024 at St Peter Catholic Church, 518 E. Dewald St. with visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the church. Visitation will also be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday January 18, 2024, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. Entombment in Catholic Cemetery. The family prefers memorials in his name to Bishop Dwenger High School Tuition Assistance or St Peter Catholic Church for masses.
