Obituary

Thomas John "Eck" Eckrich, 66, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Cleveland Clinic, surrounded by his family.  Tom was born in Fort Wayne on June 28, 1958, to Thomas & Sally Eckrich. He married his adventurous, fun-loving, supportive wife Katie Shank on November 12, 1988.

Throughout his various roles in manufacturing, construction, and engine repair, Tom built a reputation as a guy who got things done. His work ethic and accumulated skills enabled him to pursue his passion for all things related to boats and lake life through Eck's Mobile Marine. Based at Clear Lake, Tom's knowledge, integrity, and wisdom were appreciated by customers throughout northern Indiana and southern Michigan.

He never met a boat he could not fix, a dog he did not love, and a bird he did not feed. Tom had a special spot in his heart in caring for the widows at Clear Lake and was a walking encyclopedia of the area. Tom was trustworthy, honest, hard-working, tough as nails, with a quick sense of humor. In the summer, he was happiest boating on Clear Lake, enjoying ice cream, building massive bonfires, flying his array of different kites, and spending time in the field. In the off-season, he spent his time snowmobiling, detailing boats, tinkering in the workshop, and making sure Clear Lake was still there. Tom loved a lot of things in life, but nothing compared to his deep love for his wife, children, mom, siblings, and nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Katie; children, Samantha (Rob Hoffman) of South Bend, John (Bailey) of Ft. Wayne, and Laura of Boise, ID; mother, Sally of Clear Lake, IN; sister, Ann (David) Arnold; brothers, Christopher (Carol Ann), Tony (Lora), sister-in-law, Kathleen Eckrich; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael; father, Thomas J. Sr.; and brother, Bill.
