Obituary

Thomas L. Sherbondy, 84, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, after a recently diagnosed and very aggressive type of Leukemia. He was born in Fort Wayne on August 5, 1941, to the late Harold C. and Catherine A. (Fry) Sherbondy. Tom graduated from Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1959 and continued his education at several colleges, pursuing his lifelong passion and talent for art.

After the death of his first wife, Elizabeth Sherbondy, in 1994, Tom married Anne Richards Sherbondy in 2004. She survives along with his children, Mark (Cheryl) Sherbondy of Lake James in Angola; Craig (Heidi) Sherbondy and Brent Sherbondy, both of Sylvan Lake in Rome City; and his bonus children, John (Kim) Richards of Fort Wayne and Brian (Carrie) Richards of Colorado Springs, CO.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sherylyn Sherbondy of Fremont; Benjamin Sherbondy of Marion; Joshua Sherbondy of Bloomington; Gabrielle (Kegan) Shires of Pensacola, FL; Madeline (Andrew) Brody of Kitimat, British Columbia; Macy Richards of Asheville, NC; Morgan Richards of Fort Wayne; and Daison and Jova Richards, both of Colorado Springs, CO. Additional survivors include his brother, Jim Sherbondy of Lake James in Angola; his sisters, Sally (Dave) Norton of Fort Wayne and Patricia “Patsy” (Dan) O’Shaunessey of Greenville, SC; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, Tom was preceded in death by his sister‑in‑law, Hattie Sherbondy, and his nephew, Shawn Sherbondy.

Tom retired from Industrial Chemical Supply and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

A Master Ceramicist, Tom’s artistic legacy is defined by his founding of the Clayworx Pottery Studio at Tek Venture. Through the studio, he taught, mentored, and exhibited his work, with shows at the Ruth Koomler Gallery, the Fort Wayne Art Guild, The Shops at the Sanctuary in Columbia City, the Auburn Art Gallery, and throughout the Great Lakes region.

He also enjoyed playing bridge at the Fort Wayne Bridge Center and the New Haven Bridge Club.
