Dr. William Conrad "Bill" Gillig, 91, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday August 24, 2024. Bill was born September 5, 1932 in Decatur, the son of (the late) Harmon and Leona (Harting) Gillig. He graduated from Decatur Catholic High School, earned his bachelor's degree from Xavier University and graduated from the School of Dentistry at Indiana University. Dr. Gillig was licensed in Orthodontia and practiced in Florida and as a sole practitioner in Indiana.
Bill married Janice (Hartman) Gillig, 60 years ago, on November 9, 1963; Jan survives along with their daughters, Jill (Jim) Folstrom of Carmel, Shari (Barry) Coyne of McDonald PA, Janeen (Jason) Close of Fort Wayne, Jayne (Scott) A'Hearn of Fishers; 13 grandchildren, Rachel, Jacob, Brian, Brent, Ben, Kevin, Caroline, Ryan, Ella, Joe, Will, Isabel, Mallory; 1 great-granddaughter, Brooke; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was also preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Robert Gillig; sisters, Helen Kessen and Ruth Bolinger, and an infant son, Terry Conrad Gillig.
Bill was a 52-year former member of St. Henry Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, as well as serving on the Parish Council and the Finance Committee. He was a current member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Thomas A. Brandon Council 451, a member of The American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, and the Isaac Knapp District Dental Society. Bill cherished the time spent with his family & friends, and enjoyed the many years they spent vacationing in Juno Beach, FL.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday September 6, 2024 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Rd. with visitation from 10-11am in the church. Visitation also on Thursday from 4-7pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave, with the Rosary at 3:30pm. Entombment in Catholic Cemetery.
