Carol Marie Kelty, 85, died peacefully on Friday, December 31, 2021, in Fishers, Indiana. Born at home in Fort Wayne, April 25, 1936, to Frank and Marie Tancey, Carol graduated from Saint Jude Elementary School and from FW Central Catholic High School (1954). After studying nursing for a year, Carol enjoyed being an airline stewardess in the early days of commercial flying. By early 1959, when she became re- acquainted with John F. (Jack) Kelty, she was working with a top secret clearance for a U.S. Defense Department contractor in Fort Wayne. Carol and Jack became engaged after a brief courtship and married August 1, 1959. After 62 years of marriage, Jack survives Carol, along with their six children, each of whom will miss their mother: Martin (Renee) of Indianapolis, IN, Michael (Diana) of Fortville, IN, Maria (Charles Candelaria) of Tucson, AZ, Matthew (Tami) of Fort Wayne, IN, Timothy (Alma) of Freeport, TX, and Laura (Angelo Auriemma) of Highland, IN, along with twenty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Carol is also survived by her sister, Marsha Kay Nelson of Fort Wayne. All who knew Carol knew her deep devotion to Christ through the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They also knew her total love for Jack and for their family. Carol taught their children that life is a priceless adventure, a gift from God. She made special every birthday and holiday, took note of beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and loved an “old fashioned thunderstorm”. Carol always found the positive side of misfortune and she understood that wealth is accumulated through the love of family and friends. Carol made scores of gorgeous quilts and wall hangings, mostly for her grandchildren, and was also skilled with stained glass. The daughter and granddaughter of railroaders, Carol enjoyed few things so much as beating you in a game of gin (dime a game, nickel a hand, penny a point). She was preceded in death by her parents. Catholic Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at Saint Jude Catholic Church, 2130 Pemberton Drive, with calling one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Saint Jude Catholic Church and School, and request a Mass be offered for her.
