Daniel R. Thurber

Daniel Russell Thurber, 75, of Fort Wayne passed away, Monday March 15, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.  He graduated from Central Catholic High School and spent most of his time at General Electric before retiring from BAE.  He was a member of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church and was the Scoutmaster of Troop 2 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Dan was an Army Veteran. He earned the distinguished religious award, the St. George Medal,  the Silver Beaver Award for his devotion to Scouting, the Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to Scouting and is one of the 50 legends of Camp Chief Little Turtle. Dan always put family first and loved fishing with all of his sons and grandkids. He was extremely proud to have made many trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Winter Park Ski Resort in Colorado and Boundary Waters in Minnesota.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 55 years Carol; sons Doug (Dawn), Mark (Mandy), Matt, and Todd (Charlene) and 12 grandkids; sisters Conny Loftus (Tom) and Linda Seal (Dan); and several nieces and nephews.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Gertrude Thurber; brother John and sister Patricia. 

Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11am Monday, March 22, 2021, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Rd., Fort Wayne, IN, with calling 9-11am. Visitation will also be held 11-3 and 5-8 Sunday, March 21, 2021at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne.

Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery.
