Elmer F Lauer, 92, of Fort Wayne died March 7, 2021, Fort Wayne, IN. Elmer was born April 15, 1928 in Fort Wayne.
Elmer Lauer married his high school sweet heart, Patricia Lacey. This match was blessed with ten children; Susan Didion (Martin), Kenneth Lauer (Constance), Rosemary Hearn (Jeffery), Teresa Wyss (James), Christopher Lauer (Mary Sue), Barbara Lauer, and Kathleen Miller (Jason). Deceased children; Anita Wagner (Scott), William Lauer, and Patrick Lauer. He went to St. Mary's and Central Catholic Schools; upon graduation advanced into sheet metal trade school.
Elmer was involved in Boy Scouts and was scout master at St. Charles Parrish. Additionally, he taught sheet metal trade classes for incoming apprentice metal workers. His specialty was difficult copper and metal projects. Some examples of his work are displayed at various local church crosses, regional copper domes, the Water Bubbler Sculptor located in Headwaters Park, and WFWA Channel 39 portical facia.
His love for his family was extensive and family gatherings were his joy. He loved the lake place his father purchased and considered it his piece of heaven on earth. On Saturday and Sundays, he made time to cheer on his favorite teams Notre Dame football and IU basketball on to victory.
Funeral Mass will be 11:30 am, Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Our Lady of Good Hope, 7215 St Joe Rd with calling one hour prior. Visitation will be held Friday, March 12, 2021, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
