Erika Emma Stein, 92, of Fort Wayne died April 23, 2021 at Parkview Memorial Hospital Randallia, Fort Wayne, IN. Erika was born to the late Christoph and Emma Meier on July 22, 1928 in Durlach, Germany. She was a member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church and also loved services at the Cathedral.
Erika was one of nine children and is survived by son Gene J (Mary Lynn) Stein of Auburn IN, as well as one brother, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, seven nieces and nine nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold L Stein, one sister and six brothers.
Being a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother she acquired skills as a home manager, domestic, arbitrator, mentor, gardener, nanny, chef as well as a baker specializing in cheese cakes. She was also known for her empathy and willingness to help people. Her knitting skills produced sweaters, scarfs, hats and afghans which were gifted to many friends and acquaintances.
With her husband a career Navy man, she visited and lived in many cities. One of her favorite locations was the Hale Koa in Hawaii. She enjoyed to travel and with her long life travelled via transcontinental rail, various transoceanic passenger liners, military air transport services and commercial airlines.
Funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
