Evelyn G. Escobedo, 92, of Fort Wayne, was called home Thursday, June 2, 2022, at home surrounded and comforted by her loving children.
Born Sept. 28, 1929, in Austin, Texas, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Esidrio Garcia and Juana Terrazas. She was married to Elias Escobedo Sr. for 35 years. Together they brought their children from Lansing, Mich., to Fort Wayne in 1955 in search of job opportunities.
One of Evelyn's greatest joys was her family gatherings and many many sport and school events of 27 grandchildren, 53 great- grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Her passion was dancing as a young girl, she and her brother Bill would win jitterbug contests and be awarded war bonds as their prize. Evelyn belonged to the American Legion Post 82. She was a strong political advocate for 35 years working as a clerk at elections. She owned and operated LaCasa Escobedo restaurant from 1973 to 1985.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Elias (Amelia) and Daniel (Rose); daughters, Carmen (Juan) Larranaga, Rita Talamantes and Becky (Gary) Lebrato.
She was preceded in death by her children, Robert "Bobby" Escobedo and Kathy Adams; grandchildren, Rudy Escobedo and Carmen Marie Larranaga; and sons-in-law, Dan Adams and Faustino Talamantes.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2022, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 518 E. Dewald St., Fort Wayne (IN 46803). Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne (IN 46805), with a Rosary held at 3 p.m.
