GEORGE W. ALTER, 85, of Fort Wayne, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022. He was born on May 15, 1936, in Seymour, Ind. As a lifelong Catholic, he loved attending Mass at St. Peter's, his childhood parish, where he served as an altar boy and attended grade school. He was a graduate from Central Catholic High School. George had a 37 year career at the 122nd Fighter Wing Indiana Air National Guard and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He also owned a television sales and service business. George loved fishing with his wife, brother and sister-in-law on Hamilton and Adams lakes. He was an avid watcher of IndyCar, Notre Dame football and NASCAR. George loved spending time with his family and enjoyed a good Manhattan cocktail. George is survived by two daughters, Kathleen M. Alter of Fort Wayne and Sandra A. (N. David) McDonald of Huntsville, Ala.; and one granddaughter, Megan E. McDonald of Huntsville, Ala. George was preceded in death by his father, George W. Alter; mother, Margaret A. Alter; wife, Ella M. Alter; and brother, Daniel J. Alter. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Saint Peter's Catholic Church, 518 E. Dewald St., with a viewing one hour prior. Burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne.
