Jerry W. Cox, 85, of Leo, IN passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He went home to be with the love of his life, Marianne. Jerry was born on September 27, 1938. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn, IN. Jerry graduated from Central High School. He entered the Army and served from 1961-1963 as a courier. Jerry was a proud supporter of The American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Jerry spent a majority of his career working as Vice President and Manager at Summit Trucking Company. He then went on to work at Bristol and Parker Hannifin / Aeroquip.
Jerry was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Jerry and Marianne were married at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on June 27, 1964 and spent 59 wonderful years together. They enjoyed attending their grandkids’ sporting events and joining their friends at the Legion and Eagles. They also enjoyed their time together playing games, dancing to “Chances Are”, and saying prayers every evening before going to bed. Jerry enjoyed playing games with his grandkids and teasing them every chance he got. He enjoyed weekends at the lake with his family and watching sporting events, especially IU basketball. One of Jerry’s best attributes was his love for Marianne. He dedicated his life toward caring for her in his later years. He was an amazing primary caregiver to her for several years and then enjoyed spending time with her again as her spouse for the last several months. Jerry also enjoyed getting to know and spending time with Greg, Doug, Jen, and Stephanie’s friends. Jerry welcomed mom’s caregivers, who also became his caregivers, into his home and appreciated the love and attention they gave him and Marianne.
Jerry is survived by his children, Greg (Tess) Cox, Doug (Stacey) Cox; Jennifer (Dave) McComb, Stephanie (Joe) Carcione; his sisters Melody (Mike) Pucher and Cindy (Monty) Reneau; his grandchildren, Caroline (Brad) Kornmann, Joe (Christy) Barnes, Tori (Blake) Batson, Alex Cox, Mackenzie Cox, Teddy McComb, Delaney Cox, Tommy McComb, Ashley Cox, Dalton Cox, Connor Carcione, Jordyn Carcione, and Mason Carcione; his great-grandchildren Kennedy and Beckham Kornmann, Theodore Barnes, and Emory Batson; and his many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Evelyn Cox, brothers David (Nancy) Cox and Dan (Linda) Cox, and sister Carol (Ron) Frey. Jerry was also blessed to be cared for by amazing caregivers who have become family, Natalie and Wanda.
