John J. Ackerman

John J. Ackerman, 81, of Fort Wayne passed away Friday, September 16, 2022.  He was born on March 10, 1941, in Fort Wayne.  He was a son of the late Clem and Hazel Ackerman. John passed as he wanted, peacefully, rosary in hand, and surrounded by his family. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parrish, a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a board member for the University of St. Francis. John was a 1959 graduate of Central Catholic High School and graduated from International Business College. He became the Director of Student Development at Indiana Tech and was the President of Hoosier Windows Inc. He ended his career with his second family, Windows Doors & More.  John was a beacon to all with his giving, outgoing personality and beyond family, his passion was Lake James. A champion trick skier, John loved being in his boat and taught generations how to ski and share his love of the water.  John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary; sons, Stephen (Jennifer) Ackerman of Lincoln, NE, Timothy (Cathy) Ackerman of Gurnee, IL; daughter, Angela (Jeffrey) Garrett of Huntertown, IN; sister, Janis Getz of Bradenton, FL; 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.  John was preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene Ackerman, Clem (Hans) Ackerman, Jr., and Thomas Ackerman.  Funeral Mass will be 1:00 pm Saturday, September 24, 2022, at St. Vincent de Paul FW, 1502 E. Wallen Road, with calling one hour prior. Visitation will be held at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, September 23, 2022.
