John Baker Obituary

John R. Baker, "Pops" to his family & friends, 86, of Ft. Wayne and longtime resident of Crooked Lake, died Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Parkview Randallia Hospital.  He was born January 24, 1938, in Columbia TN, the son of (the late) Bernard and Pearl (Fite) Baker. John earned his degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tennessee. 

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Baker; daughters, Elizabeth (David) Meyers of Fort Wayne, Cynthia (Michael) Anderson of Goshen, Stephanie (Chris) Byrde of Carmel, Susan (Bill) Strube of Indianapolis and Sarah Garringer of Fort Wayne; his sister, Judy (Tom) Fleming of Franklin TN; grandchildren, Alexandria (Justin Bradford) Redding and Alysse Redding, both of Nashville TN, Madeline (Thomas) Yee of Fort Wayne, Kurtis Meyers of Gastonia NC, Aaron (Nehemiah Walls) Anderson of Savannah GA, Tyler Anderson of Goshen, Lauren Roberts of Denver CO, Katherine (Max) Wurster of Westfield, Ashley (Josh) Tooley and Tessa Strube, both of Indianapolis, Zachary Garringer and Ryan Garringer, both of Fort Wayne, and his great-grandchildren, Addilyn Tooley and Sophie Wurster.

John and Barbara enjoyed their home on Crooked Lake, and cherished the time they spent there with family, friends, and neighbors. They also enjoyed their motorhome and travelling. John was an accomplished amateur photographer and a nature enthusiast. He had retired as a chemical engineer at Central Soya.  

Funeral Services 2:00pm Thursday May 2, 2024 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with visitation from 1-2pm. Visitation also on Wednesday from 5-7pm.
