Karen D. Buchheit, 77, of Fort Wayne, died Thursday February 8, 2024 at Kingston Care Center. Karen was born in Wolf Lake on February 21, 1946, the daughter of (the late) Dewayne L. Sheley and Bonnie Mae (Miller) Sheley Knowles. On February 10, 1968, she married Alois P. Buchheit. Later, she earned her nursing degree from Parkview School of Nursing in 1987. She worked at Parkview for over 20 years as a registered nurse in the OR. After fifty-one years of marriage, Al preceded her in death on June 19, 2019.
In addition to her parents and her husband Al, Karen was also preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Sheley. She is survived by her son, Josh (Millissa) Buchheit and her grandchildren, Claire and Samuel Buchheit, all of Fort Wayne.
Karen was devoted to her nursing career, but she and Al had many other interests including their love of antiques. The two of them worked in the business for many years, buying, selling, and collecting. The only thing she was more passionate about was her family and always cherished the time she spent with them and her grandchildren. Karen was a wonderful spirit and will be greatly missed.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am Saturday February 24, 2024 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10-11am in the funeral home.
