Obituary
Marie I. Aksamit, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Sage Bluff Health and Rehab Center in Fort Wayne.
Marie was born on April 19, 1930 in Pleasant Dale, Nebraska to the late Vaclav and Antonie (Havlat) Hejny.
She came to Fort Wayne with her husband of 72 years, Marion. He preceded her in death in 2022.
Mrs. Aksamit was homemaker and loved to care for and together with her husband, raising four children.
Before starting their family, Marie worked at Wolf and Dessauer and after her children were raised, she worked for Hudson’s for ten years and then Marshall Field where she retired.
During her life, she enjoyed quilting, various needle work creations and gardening. She had also been a Starbucks Gold Member since 2012.
She is survived by her children, Marion W. Aksamit Jr., Rita Aksamit , Nancy (Richard) Konzem; grandchildren, Sarah (Chase) Eaton, Catherine (James) Thomas with three additional grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Mary E. Petzel.
Private services will take place and burial will be in Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
Memorials may be directed to Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church or Humane Fort Wayne.
