Marie Benedict

Marie W. Benedict, 91, of Fort Wayne, died Thursday October 26, 2023, at Grey Stone Health & Rehabilitation Center. Marie was born on Long Island in Jamaica, NY, the daughter of the late William John Winkler and Marie (Duester) Winkler. She had a longtime association with law enforcement and security, with the Grant Co. Sheriff’s Dept. and RCA Security. Marie was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, and the American Legion Post 47 Auxiliary. She spent her retirement years touring the USA and she enjoyed watching westerns on TV, crafting & crochet, and always cheered on her teams from New York, whether Rangers hockey or Yankees baseball. She was also a fan of Notre Dame athletics and the Chicago Cubs. Marie is survived by her children, Paul W. “Bill” Benedict of Wabash, Mark (Karen) Benedict of LaFontaine, Rebecca (Todd) Nukes of Granger, Ivorienne “Vori” Dhabolt of Fort Wayne, Stephanie (Gary) Buchholtz of Fort Wayne and Seena Koenig of Palm Bay FL; grandchildren, Paul William Benedict, Jr. of Cincinnati OH, Shanda (James) Headley of Wabash, Brooklyn (Jared) Rice of Marion, Eric Benedict of LaFontaine, Thomas “Tiger” Nukes of Granger, Rebecca (Doug) Moore of Sweetser, Julie (Don) Harter of Fairmount and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. Marie was also preceded in death by husband, Robert A. Benedict; sons, Andrew R. Benedict and David A. Benedict; granddaughter, Kathy Kuehner, and sister, Ruth Walker. Funeral Services 12:30pm Friday November 3, 2023 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with visitation on Friday from 11:30-12:30pm. Inurnment in the St. Mother Theodore Guerin columbarium at Catholic Cemetery.
