Obituary

Martha J. (Marty) Gatzemeier Haag, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed peacefully from my arms into the arms of Jesus, whom she served so faithfully, on Friday March 31, 2023 at Kingston Residence. Marty was born in Havre, MT on December 7, 1929, the seventh of nine children of (the late) Edward and Anna May (Fort) Gatzemeier. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of St. Francis and her graduate degrees in Business Education and Guidance from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Early in her career, taught in several grade schools in Illinois and Indiana, then spent the majority of her career at Bishop Luers High School, where she also served as Chairman of the Business Dept. for many years. In addition, she taught evening courses at International Business College. She was truly an inspiration and a joy to anyone who was privileged to call her their friend. She will be missed dearly and will live in our hearts forever. “I will never forget the outpouring of love and care that was showered upon both of us by our dear Kingston family and I extend all my love and deepest appreciation to each one of you. Also, my deepest appreciation to the Stillwater Hospice nurses and aids, who so tenderly cared for Mom.” Marty is survived by two brothers, Edward Gatzemeier of Helena MT, Joseph Gatzemeier of Havre MT; her best friend of many years, Sr. M. Blanche, O.S.F. of Mishawaka; her devoted daughter, Kay Miller of Fort Wayne; all of her deeply cherished friends and several step-children.   In addition to her parents, Marty was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer Haag; four sisters, Sr. M.
