Obituary

Phyllis Ann Blee, 91, of Fort Wayne died May 18, 2021 at Towne House Retirement Center, Fort Wayne, IN. Phyllis was born August 2, 1929 in Fort Wayne. She graduated from Central Catholic High School. In 1951 she married her high school sweetheart Thomas Blee. They lived in Santa Ana, Chicago, Schenectady, and Pittsburgh before returning to Fort Wayne. Phyllis was a devoted mother and grandmother who supported the vast array of hobbies, adventures, pets, accomplishments, and aspirations of her family members while making each feel special in her eyes. Her gift for calming babies and children, along with her infectious laugh and knack for the unexpected joke, superb organizational skills, and relaxed, happy nature created the solid foundation for her family’s life that endures even without her physical presence. Phyllis enjoyed knitting, including the special blankets she made for each of her children and grandchildren, tennis, outdoor walks, gathering the family together at a lake cottage at Clear Lake, puzzles, gardening, and spending time with her wide circle of friends. She also was active in charitable activities, especially on behalf of children and health care, and was a long-time member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and more recently a member of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish. Phyllis is survived by a Daughter, Kathleen M (Pam) Blee of Pittsburgh, PA; Three Sons, Timothy R (Kathleen) Blee of WA, Michael T (Sue) Blee of Fort Wayne, IN, Thomas M (Marcy) Blee of Fort Wayne, IN; a Brother, Carl Grothouse of Kokomo, Indiana, a Sister-in-law, Nancy (Joyce) Blee of The Villages, FL, eight grandchildren, and eight greatgrandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, her daughter Mary Elizabeth, her parents Carl and Marie (Reinhart) Grothouse, and her sisters Margaret Mattes and Patricia Bonsib. A private memorial will precede burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
