Raymond J. Schowe

Raymond “Ray” Joseph Schowe, 91, of Angola died on December 22, 2021, the son of Edwin and Josephine (Grosjean) Schowe. It has been said that when the love of your life passes, you are more likely to follow closely behind from a broken heart - with Ray, there was no truer statement.

Ray retired from Rea Magnet Wire in Fort Wayne after 35 years of service.  He was the first St. Vincent de Paul, Boy Scouts of America, Troop 2 Scoutmaster.  In 1960 the Troop had 11 members; with the strong program and leadership of Ray, in only 5 years, the number of Scouts increased to 110.  In 13 years as Scoutmaster, 24 Scouts achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, a remarkable achievement.  Ray was the recipient of many awards over his tenure as Scoutmaster, including the prestigious Silver Beaver award bestowed upon those “persons who give continued, unselfish, and effective service to the community and Boy Scouts of America.”  Ray’s service to Scouting was only surpassed by his love, devotion and commitment to his wife Regina, “Jeannie.”

Ray is survived by his sons, Terrence (Carolyn) Schowe, Gerald (Carol) Schowe; four grandchildren Kate (Joe), Scott (Zoe), Anna and Jessica, his great grandson, Emmett and his brother, Robert Schowe (Jodie).  He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 70 years,  Regina “Jeannie” Schowe; bothers Lester Schowe and Edwin Schowe and sister Winifred Schowe.

Dad, you were the light in the window that safely guided us home all these years to the deep and abiding love of our family.  You will be missed every hour and every minute of each day that follows.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior.  A Rosary Service will be held at 9:30am.  Burial will be in the St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery.
