Russell (“Russ”) Edward Miller, Jr., born October 15, 1950, passed restfully on October 6, 2021, at Franciscan Hospice House. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1969 where he was Vice-President of his Senior class. He then attended Indiana University - Bloomington and graduated in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in Radio and Television. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley (née Christen) in 1974 and they remained together until his death. He is survived by Shirley; his three children: Samuel F. (Rachel) Miller who lives in Brentwood, Tennessee; Peter T (Jennifer) Miller who lives in Fort Wayne; and Mindy M. (Brian) Knowles who lives in Lafayette; and six grandchildren; Jackson, Liam, and Emmaline Miller. He was preceded in death by his father Russell Sr.; his mother Elaine; his sister Sandra; his daughter Molly; and his granddaughter Marcella.
Russell was a champion speaker with Toastmasters. For many years, he was a scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 307 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and was a recipient of the St George Medal. He enjoyed woodworking, playing card games with friends, and hiking in the fall in southern Indiana. He was a devote Roman Catholic who volunteered as a lector and Eucharist minister, and delivered communion to the sick. Before his retirement in 2013, he worked as a senior insurance adjuster for Commercial Union and Bituminous.
He will be missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, October 15, 2021 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E Wallen Rd. with calling one hour prior. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with the Rosary recited at 3:30 pm.
