Sabatino “Babe” Gentile, age 99, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024. Born on April 19, 1924, he was one of nine children born to the late Valerio and Paulina (Lobreste) Gentile. At the age of seventeen, Babe answered his country’s call and enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably during World War II. In 1951, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Raucci. They spent the next 62 years building their life together until her passing in 2013. Babe was the owner of Midwest Chemical in Fort Wayne. When not working, he enjoyed cooking for anyone and everyone. He also enjoyed working in his garden and spending time with family and friends. Family was important to Babe, and the growing generation of great great nieces and nephews brought joy and purpose to his final years. Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Connie Buonomo; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews. Babe was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Elizabeth Gentile. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Saint Jude Catholic Church, 2130 Pemberton Drive, Fort Wayne, IN 46805 with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Babe will be laid to rest at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
