Sergio (Rocky) Martinez, Sr.

Sergio “Rocky” Martinez, Sr., 64, of Garrett IN, died Monday September 4, 2023. He was born in Fort Wayne on June 1, 1959, the son of the late Roberto Martinez, Sr. and Esther (Gasnarez) Martinez. He graduated from Elmhurst High School with the Class of ’78 and for several years Rocky played professional hockey as a goalie. On July 10, 1992, Sergio married Bonnie (Kocks) Martinez; she survives after 31 years of marriage. He retired from the warehouses at United Parcel Service and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Rocky was a sports fan, especially hockey, and an avid fisherman. He loved music, playing the accordion and attending concerts. He cherished the times he spent with his family & friends; he was lovable & kind; had a big heart and was always willing to help others when needed. He was also an animal lover, caring for numerous pets over the years, most recently for his dogs ‘Oscar’ & ‘Louie’. Sergio is survived by his wife Bonnie and their children, Sergio Martinez, Jr. of Garrett, Siboney (Justin) Jacobsen of Garrett; Krisina (Daniel Forero) Martinez-Forero of Austin, AR and Senella Martinez of Garrett; granddaughter, Kalina Forero in Austin; brothers, Roberto (Kay) Martinez, Jr., Joe (Kay) Martinez and Jesse (Frances) Martinez, all of Fort Wayne; David (Elmira) Martinez in Russia, and sister, Rosario Martinez of Fort Wayne.  Mass of Christian Resurrection 12:00 pm Friday September 8, 2023 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 300 W. Houston St., Garrett IN, with visitation from 10:00-12:00 pm in the church. Memorials may be directed to the Martinez family.
